以下是一些城市類Part3的回答參考:
問:Why do more and more people live in the city?/ What are some factors that attract people to settle down in certain places?
There are many reasons why an increasing number of people choose to settle down in the city. First of all, the living standard tends to be much higher because residents can have an easier access to the advanced healthcare system and well-equipped hospitals. Besides, it is more likely for people to find favourable employment in cities, metropolises in particular, in which a large number of multinational businesses would set up their on-the-ground presence there.
問:How does this affect the environment and nature?
The density of people in cities results in heavier reliance on fossil fuels because urban residents are used to commuting by private vehicle, which has enormous negative impacts on air and environment. In addition, in order to accommodate the expanding urban population, local authorities have no choice but to use more public land to build apartments, resulting in fewer green spaces in the city. Moreover, it is likely for people to suck up natural resources from the countryside and spit back vast quantities of waste, which should be of critical concern to the public.
問:Is there a way to balance city and nature?/What can be done to prevent damage to the nature?
Yes, there are some ways to strike a balance between city and nature. First of all, local administration should make more efficient use of natural resources, notably energy, but also materials, water and land. In this way, it will prevent nature from the risk of excessive exploitation. On the other hand, city planning should be aimed at building a greener city. For example, a mix of open spaces, parks or even farms can be built within residential communities to make the city surrounded by leafy suburbs.
問:What are the differences of the young and the old when choosing where to live?
From my perspective, more of young people would choose to live in the city centre, especially the city centre in a metropolis, because they want something exciting, culturally fun and involving plenty of diversity. The older generations' lifestyles do not seem to be all that thrilling to most of these youngsters. Also, living in the city centre is closer to the workplace, which greatly reduces their commuting time. Compared with youngsters, the old may have peaceful inner minds so that they may choose to live in the countryside where they can escape from the bustling city life.
