　　Traditionally， people preferred to eat with their members almost everyday， but now the situation has been altered and this tradition is vanishing. It seems to me that the acceleration life module and diversification of catering services are the two main reasons for this change, with several impacts on both households and the community as a whole.

　　First of all, the hectic work schedule is often considered the main reason why individuals cannot have meals with their family. Under the circumstance of fierce competition especially in metropolitan cities, people have no choice but to devote themselves to their career, by which I mean most of time would be spent at work rather than at home and they even have no time to meet their family let alone have meals together. Another contributing factor is that the catering services have been diversified, offering more options for people to choose from. For example, culinary skills are no longer crucial to younger generations as the takeout restaurants are peppered with their life, from which people can be ordered almost anything they want, receive the food in a shorter time compared with the home working and even don’t have to both the tableware cleaning. Therefore, eating at home with family is no longer a must as it used to be.

　　Admittedly, the gradual disappearance of family meals has several influences. In terms of individuals themselves， this would inevitably exert the alternation among family members. It is because that family togetherness is a valuable opportunity to exchange emotions and share daily stories, which contributes to the strengthening of bonds with each other. Without this， family values might not be appreciated when people do not feel the need to come back home. Besides， regarding to the social impact of this phenomenon， this may somehow lead to the ignorance of traditional cultures. For example, parents would teach their children to behave in a socially acceptable way, like avoid stabbing the chopsticks in the bowl of rice as with any Buddhist culture such behaviour what happens at a funeral. Otherwise, people would offend the host especially in the formal dinner or other occasions without consciousness.

　　In conclusion， there are many reasons which prevent families from eating together, most of which stemming from the family members themselves. And it is clear that such lack of quality time with family can have negative impacts on individuals themselves and the society.
