There is an assumption that the only thing employers need to consider is employees’ work performance but not their dress; however, I would say this opinion is oversimplified.
Indeed, the populace tends to venerate quality of work as the only thing that should concern employers, while dismissing the justification of the dress code. For those who think in this way, the only indicator to evaluate employees’ contribution to a company is their work performance; by contrast, how they dress does not seem to make a big change to the turnover of the company.

Plausible though the above statement seems, the significance of work quality does not necessarily mean that employers should not pay attention to the dress code in the company. It is difficult for me to see the claim in question as anything other than a generalization: which factor deserves more consideration of employers cannot be discussed in the abstract, but studied in context, i.e. related to the discrete job requirement, or the corporate culture of a business. Example regarding this include dangerous jobs such as electricians, whose dress should be of paramount importance and must be strictly in compliance with the safety code, otherwise it would cause threat to life. The same case can be seen in financial sectors, where the way a bank representative looks is sometimes the key to win a client.
From what has been discussed, it is my conclusion, therefore, whether the dress code deserve its place in a company should be set against context, and therefore work performance is not the only thing that concerns employers.
